Twilio SMS

uContact integrates with Twilio, allowing you to communicate with your customers through SMS channels. It's very easy to set up and requires a simple configuration with the information provided by the provider.

Before you start!

Before starting the configuration, you need to have certain information that uContact will need to establish the integration with the provider. Below, we detail the required information.

Twilio Portal Configuration

Within the Twilio portal, certain configurations are necessary. Below we show you the step-by-step process. If you don't have a Twilio account, you can create one by clicking here

  1. First, you need to access the Twilio Portal using your account credentials.
  1. Once you've logged in, within the Development menu, click Messaging and then access the Services option to create one. In the first step, you simply need to assign an identifying name and select what you'll use the service for.

Then, click the Create Messaging Service button to continue.

  1. In the second step, click the Add Senders button.

A modal will appear where you need to select the Phone Number option.

Then, click the Step 3: Set up integration button to continue.

  1. In the third step, under Inbound Messages select the option Send to Webhook. This is where we need to configure the Webhook.
  • Webhook for messages
https://instance.ucontactcloud.com/api/inbound/twilioSms/message

Replace "instance" with your instance name, without the .ucontactcloud.com. If the instance is https://marketing.ucontactcloud.com, the webhook should look like this: https://marketing.ucontactcloud.com/api/inbound/twilioSms/message.

In both fields, Request URL and Fallback URL, you need to put the same URL and keep the HTTP Post option. Following the previous example, it should look like this.

Then, click the Step 4: Add compliance info button to continue.

  1. Finally, in this step, click the Complete Messaging Service Setup button to finish the process.
  1. Finally, in the Services section, verify that the service you previously created appears along with the configured Webhook URL.

Required Information

  • Username: Username of the Twilio account.
  • Password: Password of the Twilio account.

How to configure the provider in uContact?

  1. First, go to the Administration Menu and access the Connectors section. Then, within the screen, click the New button located in the upper right corner.
  1. In this modal, you need to enter a unique name for the connector, select the SMS channel and the Twilio provider.
  1. Then, two new sections will appear. In the Configuration section, fill in the fields with the information provided by the provider.

Configuration

  • Username: Username of the Twilio account.
  • Password: Password of the Twilio account.
  • Messages per Second: The maximum number of messages that can be sent per second. The default is 1000.
  1. Then, in the Numbers tab, you need to enter the number you configured in the Twilio account during the process mentioned above.

Numbers

  • Phone List: Here you need to add the numbers the connector will use to send and receive messages. You can add them manually or in bulk using a list of numbers.

    How to add a number?

To add a number, simply enter it in the Phone Number field and then click the + button.

Once added, you can view it in the list.

For each number you will have the option to:

    • Copy: this option copies the number to the clipboard.
    • Delete: this option allows you to delete the number from the connector. To delete it, you need to save the connector.

How to upload a number list?

To upload a number list, you need to click the button shown below.

Then, the data import wizard will open.

    • Step 0: the required fields are displayed.
    • Step 1: you have to drag the list or select it from your computer. It must be in XLSX, ODS, CSV, or TXT format.
    • Step 2: you will see the first 3 records of the list in the left column, and in the right column you must associate it to the Phones option. Additionally, if you included a header in the list, for example, Numbers, you need to select the Contains headers option.
    • Step 3: finally, in this step you simply need to click Finish.

How to monitor the connector's status?

You can check the connector's status in real time. To do this, go to the Connectors section in the Administration Menu, where you'll see a list of all created connectors. In the Status column, the corresponding status for each connector will be displayed.

What does each status mean?

Below, we show you what each of the possible connector statuses represents:

The connector is functioning correctly.
The connector has stopped working and needs to be reactivated.
Indicates that the connector is disconnected.
The connector is not currently being monitored.
